Xbox games marketing manager Aaron Greenberg tweeted that future first-party titles would be “leading with Series X” and individual studios would ultimately determine whether to launch on Xbox One. Obsidian’s site originally listed an Xbox One launch, but it has since been removed. There’s no release date set for Avowed, and it’s unclear whether the Xbox One will support the game. Today, Obsidian also announced a noir-influenced expansion to The Outer Worlds, called Peril on Gorgon, for release on September 9th. Grounded is set to be released through Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview on July 28th. A trailer doesn’t give away much detail, but it offers a sense of the game’s aesthetic and tone.Īvowed is Obsidian’s third game since its acquisition by Microsoft, following Outer Worlds and Grounded, a cooperative survival game where shrunken players navigate the dangers of a backyard. But it’s swapping Pillars of Eternity’s old-school isometric perspective for first-person gameplay, apparently including swordplay and spellcasting. With Avowed absent from E3 2021, some Obsidian fans with hopes for the studio's first-person fantasy RPG wonder when they will get an update. Avowed takes place in Eora, the setting of Obsidian’s 2015 game Pillars of Eternity and its 2018 sequel. Avowed Avowed is set to be Obsidians next big RPG and excitement for it is building uncontrollably. Obsidian is also working on The Outer Worlds 2, as announced at this year's E3. As the viewer follows a burning arrow that is shot from the high walls of a castle, they are transported across the land of Eora. However, the report speculates we may see an update for the game as early as The Game Awards this year, if not next year's E3 event.

The footage seen by Windows Central was from a pre-alpha build of the game, so there is plenty of room for change. Check out the episode here, they talk about it right after the intro. He gave us this tasty nugget of intel in the Xbox-focused podcast TWOG. And he gave us the deets, the scoop, that Avowed will most likely release in Q1 or Q2 2023. The environments will also be destructible, using fire to burn down blocked entryways, for instance. This new leak comes from Jez Cordon, an Xbox/Microsoft insider. Unlike the game's sombre trailer, Avowed is expected to have glowing dungeons, luminous forests with lush vegetation, and monster-infested tombs. Something to look forward to: Microsoft had a ton of games to show. In comparison to games like Oblivion or Skyrim, Avowed's colour schemes and general lighting are claimed to be considerably closer to The Outer Worlds.
Unlike Skyrim, Avowed will reportedly have a more colourful visual palette, with luminescent caves, verdant forests and neon effects. Obsidian teases new epic first-person RPG Avowed and updates two others at Xbox Showcase.

Fans may even recognise enemies, from the lizard-like Xaurips to deadly drakes. New Avowed Update Confirms Multiple Classes, Two-Handed Combat System which is like Skyrim /featur. Weapon enchantments are a major facet of combat, such as enchanted swords. Spells like the lightning based Jolting Touch and two-handed Fireball are present, conjured using complex hand gestures, and status effects like Fetid Caress also feature. Those magic attacks take a leaf out of Pillars of Eternity's book. Warriors will have access to physical attacks, while casters can customise their combat style using spellbook options and magic bound to specific buttons. The report states that combat seems "more loadout-based" than Skyrim.
That means dual-wielding weapons and spells for potent attacks, or equipping a mixture of the two. The report suggests that, if The Outer Worlds was the studio's take on Fallout, then Avowed is their take on The Elder Scrolls in both its fantasy setting and combat.Īvowed will feature two handed combat and multiple classes, seemingly borrowed from Skyrim.
